Details of the HÄGGLUND Bv 206 Personnel Carrier (Petrol/Gasolene) (Amphibious)
Comprised of a front and rear body, both of which are driven, the Personnel Carrier offers a tremendously versatile capability being capable of carrying up to 17 persons or up to 2,000kg of cargo internally.
The two GRP bodies are naturally buoyant and permit the vehicle to actually swim which is not to be confused with fording. These vehicles can actually swim on still water at a speed of up to 4 knots.
We have modified dozens of these vehicles for customers to fit the specific role they are to be used for. From rural load carriers to be used by farmers for carrying animal feed out into the hills where even Land Rover`s cannot go through to Executive models which include extravacant interiors with leather seating, satelite television and even a mini-bar.
Since the body is made of Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) they do not suffer from the typical rust which other vehicles oftern do and that means they will last.
With all tracks driving these vehicles can climb up 60° inclines in dry conditions and up to 40° in snow and what`s even better is that as a benefit of the articulated steering, the driver need not worry (as you would with a vehicle pulling a trailer) about what is happening with the rear unit since it`s tracks follow almost exactly in the footprint of the front ones.
Being the most popular version of the Hagglund BV206 we are accustomed to supplying units in quantity as a fleet for companies. In this example you can see a BV206 as used by the Police Force being used in harsh terrain and in this particular photo having just crossed a river.
The personnel Carrier is equipped with bilge pumps in both front and rear compartments to prevent flooding of the vehicle whilst fording or swimming should for any reason water be permitted to enter the cabins.
And in this example we can see the BV206 being used as a Rescue Vehicle equipped with a front mounted winch which is an optional extra.
Many BV206`s are used by Rescue Organisations simply because of the flexibility of the machine as well as the terrain it can traverse whilst carrying large payloads of equipment or rescuers.
We have even been asked to create an executive model BV206 Personnel Version with Metalic Paint, Air Conditioning, Velour Seating and amongst other things a TV with Built in Satelite and DVD Player.
This all combines to show how versatile the BV206 is and how it`s role in civilian life is far more positive than it`s role in the military.
Civilian versions can now be found in all corners of the world from the freezing cold Polar Regions to the sweltering heat of the Deserts of the Middle East and anywhere in between that you choose to think of.
HÄGGLUND BV206 Petrol (Gasoline) Version
The majority of the BV206`s we sell are outfitted with the well proven Petrol/Gasoline powered V6 powerplant. This engine provides good low end torque and delivers around 125 Bhp at 4,500rpm.
The ford engine as used in the BV206 was originally used in Ford`s Consul and Granada range of vehicles having a carburettor systems as opposed to an EFi system, this makes them extremely easy to maintain in the field.
Whats the main difference between Petrol/Gasoline and Diesel
There is no real difference to speak of between a Petrol/Gasoline powered BV and a Diesel BV with the exception of better fuel economy and the fact that a Diesel Engine is a better option if you intend to use the vehicle in it`s amphibious capacity.
With the lack of available Mercedes Powered BV`s in the marketplace we have take the step of introducing a re-engining program which involves replacing the Ford V6 Powerplant with a NEW Ford Turbo Diesel Powerplant (Derivitive of the Ford Transit Engine).
The engine sits between the driver and the front seat passenger under a noise dampening engine cover. The engine is mated to a Mercedes 3 speed automatic Gearbox making an extremely reliable combination.
